Aberdeen Group has just published their latest research titled “Onboarding 2013 – A New Look at New Hires” that takes a fresh look at Onboarding. Aberdeen Group explain in their study of 230 organisations that the report explores “the best practices organisations use to transform basic new hire orientations into strategic initiatives and how they leverage world-class technology to boost productivity, engagement and retention”.
The study found that despite the interest in strategic onboarding “only 37% of organisations surveyed had invested in a formal onboarding program for longer than two years”. The study further revealed that boosting employee productivity was the top objective of an onboarding program.
Interestingly, but perhaps not surprisingly, Aberdeen Group’s study highlighted firms with ‘Best in Class’ performance that shared the following common characteristics:
- Deep commitment to aligning onboarding objectives to overall business goals
- Combination of tactical and strategic onboarding initiatives to drive productivity and engagement
- Investment in world class technology throughout the onboarding”
