BlessingWhite’s 2014 report highlights the changing nature of careers and how they are not static but rather fluid. They argue the importance of being nimble and planning on an individual and organisational level, along with the need to deploy a comprehensive career strategy. The report challenges the notion that the traditional career is not a thing of the past, citing research that shows average tenure in the UK, USA and Germany has risen steadily from 2000. The study also shows that broadly interesting and meaningful work has consistently outweighed financial rewards and work-life balance over the past 10 years. However the report also segments out generational differences that show Gen Y place more emphasis on financial rewards and Gen X who place more emphasis on work-life balance.
Overall, this is a very interesting study with a wide range of statistics to support their arguments.
